It is one of the oldest established wine regions in Portugal. Surrounded on all sides by mountains, the Dão region is protected both from the direct influence of the continental climate and, from the chill and rains of the ocean. The really special thing about the wines of Dão region, whether red or white, is the delicious balance of the wine constituent; acidity, alcohol and concentration of flavor which all sums up to an elegant glass of wine.
Dão is home to several dozen varieties of gapes. However, its major production of red wines is made from Alfrocheiro, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional and white wines from Bical, Cercial, Encruzado, Malvasia Fina and Verdelho
