The demarcated Region of Vinho Verde, is the biggest DOC of Portugal, up in the cool, rainy, verdant North West. The vineyards there are disposed crossways and in a simple string. Benefiting from a cool and damp climate with Atlantic influence, the wines are characterized by an aromatic intensity, combined with high freshness and minerality.
We can find a diversity of the most noble and regionally emblematic grape varieties there. Some of its most successful red wine grape has been Vinhão, followed by Azal Tinto and Espadeiro. These grapes can produce wines with deep purple coloring and peppery notes. The two most successful white wine varieties are Alvarinho and Loureiro.
